This course offers students the chance to learn fundamental skills for public speaking, presentation, and acting performance through the study of comedy improvisation, pantomime, clowning, voice and diction, basic method acting skills, playwriting, monologue study, and scene work. Along the way we learn about theater and film history, study the work of great performers, and learn to be more comfortable speaking in front of other people.
Intermediate Theater (9-12)

Prerequisite: Two years middle school Theater, equivalent experience, or Theater 1

This course offers the opportunity to strengthen and add to students’ fundamental theatrical skills by creating and performing theater. We will expand our knowledge of performance types, method acting, writing for theater, improvisation, and international theater history. Students must have a previous background in performance techniques through Theater 1 and/or middle school theater courses. (Students are required to participate in events outside of the school day.)
Pre-Advanced Theater (10-12)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Intermediate Theater

Graduation Requirement: Fine Arts or Elective
Pre-Advanced Theater is a one-year course designed to provide training in vocal skills, physical movement, and characterization before taking Advanced Theater. Students continue to develop acting skills introduced in the Theater One and Intermediate Theater classes while writing and performing one-act plays and adapting non-theatrical literature for the stage. This class provides the opportunity to perform for the public in short dramatic and comedic pieces. (Students are required to participate in events outside of the school day.)
Advanced Theater (10-12)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Intermediate Theater with a minimum grade of “C” or higher

Graduation Requirement: Fine Arts or Elective
This is the highest level of performance training offered in the Theater Department, offering students the opportunity to further their performance skills, participate in competitive events, and perform for the public. (Students are required to participate in performances outside of the school day.) (May be repeated 3 times.)
Technical Theater (9-12)

This course provides an overview of the hidden work done by backstage artists and designers to make theater, film, and video games the amazing art forms they are today. We start with the fundamental elements of theater, then the fundamental elements of design before students learn how to design scenery, costumes, lights, and sound for theater, film, and video games. Students in this class will get real, hands-on experience designing and building costumes, props, and sets for our mainstage shows, hanging and programming lights, pulling curtains, running spot lights, and performing the various behind the scenes jobs needed to create successful theater and film productions. (Students are required to participate in performances outside of the school day.) (May be repeated 4 times.)
