AEO, The Alternative Energy Organization at Carlsbad High School was founded May 2008 with the goal, “To promote and apply the use of alternative energy in the community. Our club will network with alternative energy companies, organizations, the community, and the government. With the ultimate goal of furthering the awareness and use of alternative energy by the public.”   This year our first project will be to build a hydroponics system that will, eventually, be powered by solar photovoltaic cells.

We meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month in room 2007 at lunch.

Upcoming Events

Guest speakers, Mark DeMitchell and Mike Tarzian, of Vertical Earth Engineering, will talk about the benefits of hydroponics and how to start a system.  When?  Tuesday, November 17th in room 2007 at lunch.

November 21st, Saturday, at the San Diego Town Country Center, there's an Alternative Fuel Education Day for families.  See the link below:

Hydroponics project

AEO will be setting up a hydroponics system.   Hydroponics conserves water and land.  The output from a hydroponics systems compared to conventional, in-ground plantings is at least doubled because the roots of the plants have ready access to nutrients.  The plants grow faster, require essentially no weeding, and can be grown at higher density.  Club members are currently investigating resources to use for this.

Come hear  from two CHS grads about hydroponics and the company they've started since graduating from UC Santa Barbara.  They will be talking to the club on Tuesday, Nov. 17th in room 2007 at lunch.  Please join us.
